Activities and projects
Reforestation
Reforestation in Senegal is an important step towards combating deforestation and promoting environmental sustainability. The country has suffered significant forest loss in recent decades, leading to soil erosion, water scarcity and biodiversity loss. ASAN focuses on planting native tree species that stabilize the soil, conserve water resources and improve the livelihoods of local communities. Reforestation in Senegal is an important step towards reversing the negative effects of deforestation and creating a sustainable future for the country.
Mangroves
As mangrove ecosystems are by far one of the most effective measures in the fight against the climate crisis, ASAN has started to restore mangrove forests in many places in the country by planting propagation plants. Only recently, over 100,000 Rhizophora and Avicennia plants were planted in the Senegal River delta with funding from the German government. Further measures are planned with the support of Friends of nature.
Environmental education
Since 1983, ASAN has been carrying out awareness-raising activities on conservation issues and environmental education throughout Senegal. As the majority of its members are young people, the focus is on environmental education as a tool to promote early environ-mental awareness and to involve families, schools and universities in local environ-mental policies.
Empowering everyone through environmental education has helped to increase under-standing of how to protect the environment and how to better impact their natural surround-ings.
In addition to practical work in the national nursery, visits to environmental education sites in Senegal are carried out with young people to bring them into direct contact with nature and environmental protection measures.
Ecotourism
In the face of traditional tourism, which poses a threat to our ecosystems and local communities, ASAN is firmly committed to promoting sustainable tourism that better respects our environment and our cultures and brings direct benefits to the population.
From 1997 to the present day, ASAN has developed eco-tourism itineraries and accom-panied groups of nature lovers from France, Germany, Greece, Belgium, Austria, the Nether-lands, Switzerland and Sweden through Senegal. These groups learn about the richness of traditional cultures and the local flora and fauna.
Thanks to these sustainable trips, visitors and visitors understand and respect each other. This has led to many solidarity actions throughout the country, making entire communities more resilient to precarious living conditions.
Youth exchanges
The youth exchange Senegal offers young people the opportunity to get to know new cultures and ways of life. Through direct contact with peers from another country, intercultural skills can be developed and understanding for other perspectives can be promoted. Participants have the chance to improve their language skills, make new friends and broaden their horizons. The Senegal Youth Exchange is a valuable experience that helps to better understand the world and to develop oneself.
